He stormed the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock across the face after the host made a joke about Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Following Will Smith's slap, the actor yelled at Chris Rock to keep his wife's name out of his mouth.

The Academy's decision to ban Will Smith for the next ten years does not exclude him from being nominated for or winning more awards. For example, after winning Best Picture for CODA, his slave drama Emancipation, directed by Antoine Fuqua, is set to be released in 2022 and might be a possible award winning chance for Apple TV+.
