According to a statement from the Knox County District Attorney's Office in Tennessee, Geoffrey Ian Paschel, 44, was convicted last year of domestic abuse and aggravated abduction in 2019 of his girlfriend at the time of the conviction.
He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and banged her head against a wall several times before throwing her to the ground and dragging her away, according to authorities. In court, he claimed that her injuries were the result of her own actions.

In 2020, Paschel will appear in Season 4 of "90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days," which will feature him and his new partner, Varya Malina. Fans phoned in to report his history of violence, and a petition was started to get him expelled from the game.
On the day of his appearance, he said on Instagram that it was his "decision" to participate on the show, despite his "checkered background."
In each season, the show follows six couples who have met online and formed a connection as they negotiate the K-1 fiancé visa application process. The visa enables an American citizen to apply for the entry into the nation of a foreign partner who is not an American citizen. Once accepted, the couple has 90 days to tie the knot, or else one of them must return to their native country for the duration of the marriage.
Malina, who is originally from Russia, has been at Paschel's side during the whole trial.
Malina expressed her excitement at the possibility of an appeal of Paschel's conviction in an Instagram post on Friday.
"How old are you? 18 years?" Okay, we've reached the bottom, which means there's only one way to go now: up! "The arguments in support of the appeal grew even more compelling," she wrote.
